Our Field Services team installed and commissioned the optical fibre connection for the musical spectacular in the Valais mountains on behalf of Swisscom Broadcast. The logistics team from the SA warehouse in Sion was also on hand to provide support. The technological requirements were high. Flawless media coverage for more than 100 events on 17 stages had to be guaranteed over the course of five days. This year’s line-up of the acoustic music festival, which took place at the foot of the Matterhorn, included big names such as Patent Ochsner, Peter Maffay, Passenger, Of Monsters and Men, Calum Scott and Philipp Frankhauser.

A modern WLAN solution (Nimbra) was connected to the optical fibre connection, guaranteeing high-quality, lossless transport of video, voice and data. A power line was additionally laid as part of the installation.

Use of private BEPs.

The 150-metre optical fibre cable was laid on the festival grounds in rather adventurous ways. Our thanks go out to the private home-owners who allowed us to use their private building entry points. To reach the installation site of the Nimbra equipment, the cable was pulled through laundry rooms in blocks of flats, via terraces and façades as well as over flat roofs. Of course, this was done in compliance with all safety measures, including the proper cordoning off and marking of the cable routes.

To reach the final operating site in Zermatt, the necessary material had to be reloaded numerous times; it was partially transported to the surrounding ski slope with the necessary electric vehicles. In the final week, winter returned and brought some fresh snow for the construction work. The setup worked perfectly, however, and the festival could take place from 11-15 April 2023 as planned and with all live acts.
